3 Natural Beauty Products You Can Easily Make At Home

With my background in aromatherapy (I’ve been an Aromatherapist for 20 years – I started when I was very young…. 😉 ) I love making my own skin care/health/beauty products at home. Folk are often asking about how I make these products so I thought I’d share with you a couple of recipes that I use. It only takes me around 20-30 mins to make these 3 products and I try to keep my recipes as simple as possible. These are very easy to make and I feel good just knowing that I’m not putting any nasty chemicals on my skin when I use them.

How to Make My Soothing Aloe Vera Gel, Energizing Coconut Body Scrub and Minty Coconut Toothpaste

These three products can be made with only 5 ingredients: coconut oil, bicarbonate of soda, aloe vera gel, peppermint essential oil, lavender essential oil. Buy the best quality you can afford. Two of my favourite ingredients are aloe vera and coconut oil… if you haven’t heard how versatile and awesome coconut oil is then you’re missing out on the amazing health benefits you can get from using it – that’s a whole other blog post…

Just 5 ingredients.

Soothing Aloe Vera Gel
This is such a good all rounder. I keep mine in the fridge and use it on burns, cuts and grazes, aching joints, skin conditions. It’s also a great alternative to the gels/serums you can buy to use on your face – especially if you keep the gel in the fridge. A little drop on each temple is so cooling and soothing for headaches too. Oh and great for sunburn! You’ll love this so much you’ll want to make a bigger batch next time 🙂  All you’ll need is:
2 tablespoons of pure aloe vera gel
5-10 drops of pure lavender essential oil
Mix the 2 ingredients together and transfer into a (preferably) glass jar. Store in the fridge.  This is what it’ll look like when you’ve mixed the 2 ingredients:

Aloe Vera & Lavender

Energizing Body Scrub and Minty Toothpaste

4 tablespoons of pure, organic coconut oil
4 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda
80-100 drops of pure peppermint oil

Thoroughly mix all of the ingredients together in one bowl (don’t melt the coconut oil – the bicarb will just sink to the bottom). Then divide the mixture into 2 and transfer into (preferably glass) jars. Keep one jar for brushing your teeth and one for the body scrub. Because there are several of us in this house I label each jar so folk don’t get mixed up! In warm weather you might want to store these in the fridge as the coconut oil will melt.

1 Body Scrub, 1 Toothpaste good to go!

The best way to use the body scrub is to gently massage it into your skin before getting into the bath or shower. Do be extra careful though and don’t put any on the soles of your feet!

If you don’t fancy or like the thought of a peppermint body scrub you can always indulge in your favourite essential oil(s) instead of the peppermint. Rose and frankincense would make a luxurious treat for your skin. Alternatively, a combination of geranium, sandalwood and grapefruit would be a perfect balancing blend of oils to soothe and uplift. If you don’t want to blend your own essential oils then Beauty Kitchen have a fabulous range of pure essential oils that are pre-blended – my favourites are ‘Chill Me’ and ‘Inspire Me’.
